The unintended expat blogger behind Silver Field Cape

Hey, I'm Luca
I’m a project manager and a parent, currently an expat living in Rome, Italy.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Italy wasn’t in the long-range plan. As with many international relocations, it started with a job opportunity and soon grew into something far greater.
The first few months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, fresh expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complicated than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, doubt, and plenty of hands-on learning. Yet gradually, routines took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt steady.
Why I Built Silver Field Cape
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or superficial tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family viewpoint.
This site exists to fill that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Italy.
What This Site Stands For (And What It Doesn't)
This site OFFERS:
- Practical insights from living in Italy
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site DOESN'T:
- A tourism authority resource
- Paid review platform
- A general travel diary
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Italy goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains helpful, I’ll continue recording what we uncover.
If you have questions about family life in Rome or anywhere in Italy, don’t hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Luca
